About this role
An exceptional opportunity for a mid-level Payments Product Manager to shape the future of Financial Services in Newcastle.
Payments infrastructure is under more pressure than it's ever been. Open banking, real-time settlement and tightening regulation mean firms need product people who understand both the technical rails and the commercial reality behind them. This growing financial services business is looking for a Payments Product Manager to help it do exactly that, based in Newcastle with hybrid flexibility built in.
The company has scaled steadily since its early years and now sits in that sweet spot: established enough to have real processes, small enough that one person can still shift the direction of a product. You'd be joining at a point where the payments roadmap genuinely needs shaping, not just maintaining.
Here's what you'll be doing
Own the roadmap for one or more payments products, from discovery through to launch and iteration
Work closely with engineering to translate regulatory and compliance requirements into shippable features
Run stakeholder conversations across risk, operations and commercial teams to keep priorities aligned
Analyse transaction data and customer feedback to spot where the product is falling short
Write clear specs and acceptance criteria that developers can actually build from
Track competitor moves in the payments space and feed that intelligence into planning
Here are the skills you'll need
Solid experience as a Product Manager within financial services, ideally with direct payments exposure
Working knowledge of payment rails, open banking standards, or card scheme mechanics
Comfortable reading regulatory guidance and turning it into practical product decisions
Strong stakeholder management. You'll need to hold your ground with senior voices in the room
A structured approach to prioritisation, backed by data rather than gut feel
Clear written and verbal communication, especially when explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical colleagues
Key perks and benefits
£57,500 to £81,500 depending on experience, plus bonus scheme
Hybrid working, with the Newcastle office as your base
Private medical insurance and pension contribution
Generous annual leave with flexible working built into the culture
Genuine progression opportunities as the business continues to grow
Why pursue a career in Financial Services?
Financial services keeps reinventing how money actually moves, and payments sits right at the centre of that shift. Newcastle has quietly become a serious hub for the sector, with strong talent and a lower cost base than London, which means product roles here carry real weight rather than sitting three layers removed from decision-making. Get in now as a Payments Product Manager and the next five years of career progression practically build themselves.
