About this role
Perfect role for a mid professional looking to grow their PR & Communications career in Manchester.
PR teams inside fast-growing startups work differently to agency life. There's no layer of account directors between you and the client, and no sign-off chain six people deep. This Senior PR Executive role sits inside a small, ambitious communications team at a Manchester startup, where the person who writes the press release is often the person who pitches it an hour later. PR & Communications at this scale rewards people who can think fast and write faster.
Here's what you'll be doing
Write and pitch press releases, comment pieces and founder statements to UK media and trade press
Build and maintain relationships with journalists covering the sector, chasing coverage without waiting to be asked
Draft messaging for product launches, funding announcements and company milestones
Monitor coverage and sentiment, and flag anything that needs a quick response
Support the wider team on social content, award submissions and the odd internal comms job
Track what's landing and what isn't, then adjust the approach rather than repeating it
Here are the skills you'll need
A couple of years in PR or communications, agency or in-house, with a portfolio of coverage to show for it
Strong writing. Clean copy, no filler, able to adapt tone for a journalist versus a founder
Comfortable picking up the phone to a journalist you've never spoken to before
Organised enough to run several pitches at once without dropping one
Genuinely curious about the news agenda and where a story might fit
Happy working without a rulebook for everything. This is a startup, not a corporate
Key perks and benefits
£25,500 to £32,000, depending on experience
Hybrid working from the Manchester office, with flexibility on hours
Equity in the business. You're building something, not just attending it
A proper learning and development budget, not a token gesture
Remote-friendly culture when you need it
Why pursue a career in PR & Communications?
Good PR people are hard to find and easy to spot once you've worked with one. Manchester has become a genuine hub for PR & Communications talent outside London, with startups and scale-ups needing sharp communicators who can move quickly. Build a reputation for getting coverage that matters, and the next step up comes fast.
