About this role
Ambitious Senior Media Relations Executive wanted to drive real impact in PR & Communications from Manchester.
Media relations has changed shape fast. Journalists want tighter pitches, faster turnarounds and genuine stories rather than press releases dressed up as news. This role sits inside an established industry leader with 250+ staff, the kind of organisation that has weathered a few news cycles and knows what a good media strategy actually looks like. You'd be joining a structured team working on large-scale campaigns for household names, not scrapping together ad hoc coverage for one client at a time.
Here's what you'll be doing
Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors and broadcast producers across national and trade media
Write and pitch press releases, comment pieces and media statements that actually get picked up
Manage reactive media requests under time pressure, sometimes with only an hour to turn something around
Support senior colleagues on crisis communications and reputation management for major accounts
Track coverage, report on campaign results and flag what's working (and what isn't) to clients
Brief spokespeople ahead of interviews and help prepare them for tricky questions
Here are the skills you'll need
A few years' experience in media relations, journalism or a PR agency environment
Sharp writing skills. You need to be able to spot a story and drop the waffle around it
Confidence picking up the phone to a busy news desk and holding your own
Solid grasp of media monitoring tools and how to read coverage data properly
Calm under pressure. Deadlines in this trade rarely move to suit you
A genuine interest in current affairs and what's actually landing in the news that week
Key perks and benefits
Salary of £23,500 to £35,000, depending on experience
Hybrid working, with regular time in the Manchester office and flexibility to work from home
Private medical and dental insurance
Enhanced pension scheme and performance-based bonuses
A comprehensive benefits package alongside clear, structured career progression
Why pursue a career in PR & Communications?
PR & Communications keeps growing because businesses need people who can shape a narrative, not just publish one. Manchester has become one of the strongest regional hubs for this work outside London, with agencies and in-house teams competing for good talent. Progress here in Manchester is visible too. Do well as a Senior Media Relations Executive and the next step, account director or head of media, isn't far off.
This Senior Media Relations Executive opportunity is brought to you by The Opportunity Hub UK.
