Are you a NEBOSH qualified health and safety professional with hands-on experience in a warehouse or industrial setting? Are you organised, practical and confident taking ownership of safety, from risk assessments and safe systems of work to incident investigations and statutory compliance?

Our client is looking for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join their team at their Southampton site.

You will be their competent person for health and safety, owning the H&S agenda for their busy warehouse. You will have direct access to the Managing Director and the support to build strong systems and a safety culture where everyone goes home safe.

Your key responsibilities will be to

  • Act as their competent person for health and safety, leading and maintaining their H&S management system, policy and site risk register.
  • Develop and embed risk assessments and safe systems of work for MHE, manual handling, racking, work at height and other high-risk activities.
  • Lead incident reporting and investigations, including RIDDOR, making sure lessons are learned and corrective actions closed.
  • Keep training, induction and H&S records organised and up to date and ensure first aid and fire marshal cover on every shift.
  • Manage statutory inspections and compliance, including fire safety, LOLER, PUWER, racking, water safety and COSHH.
  • Control contractors on site, including RAMS, permits to work and CDM duties on projects.

The ideal candidate will have

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent.
  • Proven health and safety experience in a warehouse, logistics, distribution, manufacturing or similar industrial environment.
  • Sound working knowledge of UK health and safety law, including PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, RIDDOR, the Fire Safety Order and CDM 2015.
  • Experience of leading risk assessments, incident investigations and contractor control.
  • Excellent organisation, record keeping and attention to detail.
  • Clear, confident communication with people at every level.
  • A fire risk assessment qualification or experience in a customs bonded or AEO-accredited environment (beneficial).
  • If you have strong health and safety experience in a comparable industrial setting but have not worked in logistics before, they would still like to hear from you.

If you are interested in this exciting opportunity and believe you have the appropriate skills and experience, our client would love to hear from you. Please apply today.

Please note that this vacancy may close early if they receive a high volume of applications. They encourage interested applicants to submit their application promptly to avoid disappointment.
