About this role
About Us
Established in 1999, we are an established and growing freight forwarding and logistics business with a strong focus on customer service, operational efficiency and maintaining high standards.
We are looking for a motivated, organised and enthusiastic Freight Forwarding Operations Coordinator to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with at least one year's experience in freight forwarding who wants to develop their knowledge, broaden their experience and build a long-term career within the industry.
We recognise that finding the right person is just as important as their existing technical knowledge. We are happy to invest in training and development for someone who has the right attitude, takes pride in their work and is committed to learning and improving.
Whether you have experience in a particular area of freight forwarding or are looking to expand your existing skills, we would like to hear from you.
The Role
This is a hands-on operational position involving the coordination of import and export freight movements, customs procedures and UK and European transport.
You will work closely with customers, shipping lines, hauliers, ports, customs authorities and other logistics partners to ensure shipments are handled efficiently, accurately and professionally.
We are looking for someone who is proactive, reliable and detail-oriented, with a practical approach to problem-solving and a genuine commitment to doing things properly.
Full support and training will be provided where required, with the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities as your knowledge and confidence develop.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinating import and export shipments from booking through to final delivery.
Handling full container load (FCL) and less than container load (LCL) shipments.
Arranging and monitoring deep sea and short sea freight movements.
Organising UK and European full truck load (FTL) and less than truck load (LTL) transport.
Preparing and processing import and export customs clearance documentation.
Liaising with customers, shipping lines, ports, hauliers, customs authorities and logistics service providers.
Tracking shipments and providing customers with clear, timely updates.
Monitoring shipment progress and proactively identifying and resolving delays or operational issues.
Maintaining accurate shipment records and operational documentation.
Processing sales and purchase invoices with attention to detail.
Preparing customer updates and reports as required.
Following company procedures and maintaining high standards of accuracy, communication and customer service.
Developing knowledge of freight forwarding systems, customs procedures and operational processes.
The exact responsibilities will depend on your existing experience, with training provided to help you develop in areas where required.
Essential Requirements
A minimum of one year's experience in freight forwarding or a closely related logistics role.
A basic understanding of import and export freight operations.
Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Clear and professional communication skills.
A positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
A reliable and proactive approach to work.
The ability to use initiative, follow procedures and take responsibility for your work.
Good general computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous, but is not essential
Customs clearance procedures and documentation.
FCL and LCL shipments.
Deep sea and short sea freight.
UK and European road transport.
Customs and port systems such as CDS, IPAFFS, Destin8 and CNS.
Freight forwarding software, shipment reporting and invoicing.
We do not expect candidates to have experience in every area. We are interested in people who have a good foundation, are keen to develop and are willing to learn our systems and ways of working.
What We Are Looking For
Attitude, reliability and attention to detail are just as important to us as experience.
We want someone who takes pride in their work, communicates well, asks questions when necessary and approaches problems with a practical, solution-focused mindset.
You should be comfortable learning new processes, accepting guidance and continually improving your knowledge. In return, we will provide support, training and the opportunity to develop your skills within an established business.
We are looking for the right person, not simply someone who ticks every box on a job description.
What We Offer
Competitive salary of £20,000–£35,000 per year, depending on experience, skills and suitability.
On-the-job training and ongoing support.
The opportunity to develop a broad range of freight forwarding and logistics skills.
Long-term career development opportunities within an established business.
Modern IT equipment, including powerful PCs and dual monitors.
Spacious, approximately two-metre-wide sit/stand desks.
Verso Waves freight forwarding software and Microsoft Office.
Free, secure on-site parking.
Modern, refurbished kitchen and toilet facilities.
Cycle to Work scheme.
Established in 1999, we have built our business over many years and are committed to continuing to develop our operations and our team. This is an opportunity to join a business where you can build your knowledge, make a contribution and grow with the company.
How to Apply
If you have at least one year's experience in freight forwarding or logistics, a positive attitude and a genuine interest in developing your career, we would like to hear from you.
You do not need to have experience in every area listed. If you are organised, motivated, reliable and willing to learn, we encourage you to apply.
We are interested in finding someone with the right mindset who wants to develop their skills and become a valued member of our team.
