About this role
York is a city of students, tourists and commuters, and plenty of its dog owners are away for part of every month. For them, a sitter in the home is worth more than a kennel. We want three self-employed pet sitters, covering the centre, the south and Fulford, and the west around Acomb. This is not our walking job.
You would look after a dog at the owner's address. Visits through the day are common, overnight stays at weekends are common too, and a full week for the holidays is not unusual. You follow the owner's routine, feed the dog, give medication if needed, walk it, keep it company and send a daily update.
A fair warning on how this works. There is no wage, WoofWalk is a booking app and not an employer, and bookings are not guaranteed. Your price per visit and per night is your call. Owners pay through the app, which then pays the money out to your bank. Your tax, National Insurance and insurance are yours to sort. We found no York sitting price in our research, so we offer none.
A dog staying at your own address is home boarding. That needs a licence from the council first, and the app handles it as a separate service. Sitting at the owner's address needs no licence.
Sign-up is free and the first 14 days carry no commission. Then comes 15% of each booking. Once five of your own clients have joined through you it is 10% for life; clients you bring yourself pay 10% from day one.
Over 18 only. Apply on Find a Job, telling us which part of York you are near and whether overnights are fine.
