About this role

A Vacancy at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.

This is an exciting 12-month fixed-term opportunity to support and further develop the specialist IBD pharmacy service at St Mark’s Hospital, the National Bowel Hospital, the UK’s only specialist bowel hospital and a nationally and internationally recognised referral centre for intestinal and colorectal disorders.

The successful candidate will join a highly regarded multidisciplinary team caring for patients with complex inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal, hepatology and intestinal failure conditions. The role combines advanced clinical practice, service development, education, leadership, and research, providing specialist pharmaceutical care across inpatient and outpatient settings.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacist to develop expertise in advanced therapies and biologics, contribute to clinical research and quality improvement initiatives, and support the ongoing development of a nationally recognised tertiary IBD service. It is ideally suited to a pharmacist looking to broaden their clinical and leadership experience within a specialist gastroenterology setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a highly specialist pharmacy service for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) at St Mark's Hospital.
  • Support and deputise for the Lead IBD Pharmacist as required.
  • Deliver pharmacist-led outpatient clinics, including biologics and advanced therapies, and participate in MDT clinics.
  • Dedicate one day per week to IBD clinical outcomes, research, audit, and service development projects under consultant supervision.
  • Develop and implement clinical protocols, guidelines, and pathways with key stakeholders.
  • Lead education and training initiatives within St Mark's, the Pharmacy Department, and the wider Trust.
  • Work closely with the IBD MDT, homecare providers, and commissioners to optimise biologics and homecare services.
  • Undertake audit, quality improvement, and service redesign projects to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Provide clinical pharmacy support to allocated inpatient areas and specialist gastroenterology services as required.
  • Participate in weekend, late-duty, and on-call rotas in line with departmental requirements.
