About this role
We are looking for a specialist plastic surgeon to deliver dermatology skin procedures in an outpatient setting with 1 session a month in theatres. If you are looking for a specialist post where you can genuinely shape the future of dermatology in Shropshire, train your dermatology colleagues to expand their surgical scopes of practice, influence major service redesign and integration with our community partners, and be part of one of the most ambitious hospital transformation programmes in the NHS — this is it.
Our Trust is on the brink of a once‑in‑a‑generation change. Backed by £312 million of investment, the
Hospital Transformation Programme will create
- A single acute site at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, home to a new 30‑bed Critical Care Unit, a modern Emergency Department, and a state‑of‑the‑art Women’s and Children’s Hospital
- A dedicated planned care site at The Princess Royal Hospital, supporting high‑quality elective surgery and improved patient flow
This is your opportunity to join us at the perfect moment — early enough to influence the design and delivery of future services, but close enough to opening that you’ll see your impact become reality.
Our dermatology service will be undergoing significant improvement. We are looking for a specialist grade who wants to continue this momentum — colleagues who are energised by improvement, motivated by challenge, and excited to help shape a service that women and families can trust.
- • Undertake outpatient dermatology skin procedures.
- Partake in the skin MDT as a core member.
- Undertake 1 session per month skin surgery in theatres.
- Provide support to the dermatology service and medical students by actively contributing to training and continuity of service
- To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
- The post holder will also contribute to service development. This may involve contributing to Ockenden recommendations, QIPs, audit projects, guideline updates or teaching and training.
- To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners. Including supporting the shift of elective activity out of a theatre environment and into an outpatient setting inline with GIRFT.

Together they provide 99% of our activity. Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.
Our Poppy’s Promise Commitment
We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team — clinical or non-clinical — plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.
We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.
Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.
By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values — ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.
