A pupil who struggles to follow instructions may need information presented differently.

A young person who becomes frustrated may be finding it difficult to communicate.

A child who withdraws from learning may simply need someone who can help them feel safe and confident.

We're recruiting a Specialist Learning & Behaviour Support Assistant to work with children and young people with additional needs in Exeter.

This is an opportunity to help pupils overcome barriers to education by understanding their individual needs and providing consistent, practical support.

You'll support pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties and additional learning needs.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Delivering individual and small-group learning support.
  • Helping pupils manage emotions and challenging situations.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Adapting activities to individual abilities.
  • Supporting communication and social development.
  • Helping pupils establish routines and manage transitions.
  • Following personalised education and behaviour support plans.
  • Encouraging independence and celebrating progress.
  • Working alongside teachers and specialist professionals.

Experience in SEND education, youth work, behaviour support, residential care or children's services would be particularly valuable.

You'll need to be patient, emotionally resilient and able to build positive relationships with young people who may have experienced difficulties within education.

A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, is required.

  • Competitive pay.
  • Full-time, term-time working.
  • Long-term specialist education opportunities.
  • Ongoing training and development.
  • Experience supporting a range of SEND.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Successful applicants will be subject to enhanced DBS checks, satisfactory references and relevant safeguarding procedures.
