About Net Zero Careers

Net Zero Careers connects people with jobs that support the UK's transition to net zero.

We're recruiting a Waste Collection Van Driver for a fast-growing, Southwark-based waste management business that clears and collects waste across London and sends as little as possible to landfill. It works within an award-winning circular economy group that turns overlooked materials into valuable new resources.

About the role

As a Waste Collection Van Driver, you'll be the face of the business on the road. You'll drive a medium wheelbase van and caged tipper to client sites across London, load waste safely and take it to the right place for reuse, recycling or disposal.

Each day you'll check your vehicle, plan routes around London traffic, ULEZ and congestion zones, and deal directly with clients on site. You'll also complete waste transfer notes and keep the Operations Manager updated on each job. Full training on the company's job checklist is given in your first week, and uniform and PPE are provided.

This role would suit a confident London driver who enjoys working with customers and wants to be part of a young, values-led team that's growing fast.

Key responsibilities

  • Carrying out daily vehicle walkaround checks and making sure load-securing kit and tools are in place
  • Planning routes to allow for London traffic, ULEZ and congestion zones
  • Arriving at jobs on time (aiming for 15 minutes early) and calling clients on arrival
  • Providing friendly, professional customer service on site
  • Loading and stacking waste safely and efficiently
  • Completing waste transfer notes and getting written client approval before any extra work or cost
  • Confirming completed jobs with the Operations Manager
  • Following the company's Health and Safety policy and wearing PPE at all times

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Full UK Category B driving licence held for at least 2 years, with no more than 3 points
  • Experience driving a van in central London
  • Confident and safe driving in busy traffic
  • Physically fit for manual handling, including lifting heavy and bulky items
  • Clear communication by phone, text and in person
  • Punctual, good time management and calm under pressure
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Willing to work some weekends

Desirable

  • Knowledge of waste Duty of Care and waste transfer notes (training given if not)
  • Previous experience in waste, removals or deliveries
  • An interest in sustainability
