About this role
What skills and experience we're looking for
At Mapperley Plains, we want children to achieve well and enjoy being children. That means thoughtful teaching, strong relationships and time to explore, create and play. We are looking for a class teacher to join our Key Stage 1 team, teaching Year 2, who shares that ambition.
We particularly welcome applications from teachers with experience, expertise or a strong interest in Key Stage 1 teaching and learning. We are offering a permanent appointment across the full MPS1 to UPS3 range and welcome early career teachers, experienced teachers and colleagues returning to the profession, including applicants already on the upper pay range.
We are looking for someone who will
- Teach the primary curriculum with clarity and ambition, building secure foundations in reading, writing and mathematics.
- Use assessment thoughtfully and adapt teaching so that children with different needs can participate and make progress.
- Build warm relationships and calm, consistent routines, working closely with families and colleagues and putting children’s welfare first.
Qualified Teacher Status by the agreed start date is essential. ECTs may draw on assessed placement experience.
January 2027 is our preferred start, but we recognise that notice periods may affect your availability. Please do not rule yourself out on timing alone: contact us to discuss a realistic start date.
What the school offers its staff
Our Mapperley Mission, ‘Be kind, be curious, be my best’, connects high expectations with a strong sense of belonging. We want children to develop secure reading, writing and mathematics alongside confidence, independence and interests beyond the classroom.
Our extensive grounds and Forest School give children space to learn outdoors. Through OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning), we are also developing richer opportunities for imaginative, active and inclusive play. Learning and play both matter here.
You will join a supportive Key Stage 1 team, working alongside experienced colleagues, class-based leaders and our SENCO. Our professional development priorities include writing, mathematics and inclusive classroom practice, supported by external expertise and phase-based work. We welcome the curriculum interests and ideas you could contribute.
Early career teachers will receive mentoring, structured induction and statutory timetable reductions in addition to PPA. Experienced colleagues will have opportunities to share their strengths and develop their practice alongside others.
