ROLE
CNI Technical Services Supervisor
HOURS
Full Time
LOCATION
Coleshill / East Birmingham
At Mitie, our people are our greatest strength. We want to create a place where everyone can thrive, develop and be their best every day.
We're looking for a CNI Technical Services Supervisor to join our team, supporting the mobilisation and future operation of a new critical infrastructure facility in Coleshill.
The facility is being developed in line with data centre and critical-environment operating principles, with a strong focus on resilience, availability and operational continuity. Joining during the commissioning phase offers a unique opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of the facility and its critical systems before it transitions into full operation.
You'll work closely with the Technical Services Manager, project and commissioning teams, specialist contractors and client stakeholders, taking an active role in Integrated Systems Testing (IST), commissioning, mobilisation and operational readiness.
As the facility moves into operation, the role will transition into the day-to-day technical supervision of the engineering service, helping to ensure critical systems continue to operate safely, reliably and effectively.
What you'll be doing
During commissioning and mobilisation, you'll provide practical technical support and day-to-day coordination across IST, commissioning and operational-readiness activities. You'll develop a detailed understanding of the facility, its systems and their dependencies, helping ensure knowledge gained during commissioning is carried forward into the operational team.
You'll support technical reviews, system familiarisation, witnessing activities and the management of defects, risks and outstanding actions. You'll also contribute to the development of operational procedures, Safe Systems of Work, maintenance arrangements and technical documentation.
Your responsibilities will include
-Supporting the coordination of IST, commissioning, technical handover and mobilisation activities within Mitie's operational scope.
-Working alongside project teams, commissioning specialists and contractors to understand critical systems, interfaces and dependencies.
-Supporting engineering assurance and ensuring technical risks, defects and outstanding actions are appropriately identified, recorded and escalated.
-Helping develop operating procedures, Safe Systems of Work, asset information and maintenance arrangements in readiness for live operation.
-Supporting engineering familiarisation, training and competence development as the operational team grows.
-As the facility becomes operational, supervising planned and reactive maintenance, specialist contractors and day-to-day engineering activities.
A key part of the role will be helping bridge the transition from project delivery and commissioning into a safe, resilient and fully operational critical environment.
What we're looking for
Essential
You'll have a strong electrical, mechanical or building-services engineering background, with experience working in a complex, critical or highly regulated environment.
You'll be comfortable working alongside engineers, contractors and technical specialists, with a good practical understanding of engineering safety, maintenance, risk management and Safe Systems of Work.
We're looking for someone who communicates clearly, works collaboratively and is comfortable taking ownership of day-to-day technical activities while recognising when an issue needs to be escalated.
A relevant engineering qualification or equivalent technical knowledge and experience is required.
Desirable
Experience within data centres, CNI, critical facilities, utilities, energy, telecommunications, defence or another mission-critical environment would be beneficial.
Experience of commissioning, Integrated Systems Testing, mobilisation or operational readiness within a new or significantly upgraded critical facility would be particularly valuable.
Knowledge of critical infrastructure such as HV/LV electrical distribution, UPS, standby generation, cooling systems and BMS/controls would also be advantageous, along with experience of Authorised Person arrangements, switching, isolations or permit-controlled activities.
What's in it for you?
This is an opportunity to join a new critical facility before it becomes fully operational, giving you the chance to understand the infrastructure from commissioning onwards and play an important part in shaping how it will ultimately be operated and maintained.
You'll gain valuable experience across commissioning, IST, mobilisation, operational readiness and critical-facility operations, while continuing to develop your technical and leadership capability within Mitie's CNI environment.
If you have strong engineering experience but don't meet every desirable criterion, we'd still encourage you to apply.
