What will you be doing?

At Knapwell, support is about much more than day-to-day care. It's about helping each person explore their interests, make choices, build relationships and enjoy experiences that enrich their lives.

You'll be part of a supportive team delivering personalised activities that reflect each individual's needs, abilities and aspirations.

Your responsibilities will include

Bringing learning and experiences to life through creative arts, sensory activities, communication, physical activities and practical life skills.

Supporting people to take part in community experiences, outings and activities that encourage independence and social connection.

Helping individuals develop communication skills using personalised approaches, including signing, symbols, objects of reference and assistive communication tools.

Encouraging people to make choices, express their preferences and take an active role in decisions about their lives.

Providing respectful, person-centred support with personal care and everyday activities where required.

Building positive, trusting relationships with the people you support, their families and colleagues.

Working as part of a team to plan, deliver and adapt activities to suit individual needs and interests.

Celebrating achievements, recognising progress and helping each person work towards their goals.

From discovering a new favourite activity to communicating a choice independently, you'll be there to support and celebrate the moments that make a difference.

Learn new skills and develop your career

At Sense, we believe that great support starts with people who feel confident, valued and encouraged to keep learning.

You'll have opportunities to develop your knowledge of complex disabilities and build specialist skills that can support your future career.

This includes opportunities to

Develop communication skills, including approaches such as British Sign Language, intensive interaction and alternative or augmentative communication.

Build specialist knowledge of sensory impairments, complex disabilities and person-centred support.

Access a wide range of learning and development opportunities, including online and face-to-face training.

Learn from experienced colleagues, sharing ideas and developing creative approaches to support.

Explore further professional development, including leadership and management learning opportunities where appropriate.

Whether you're experienced in support work or looking to develop your career in disability services, you'll have opportunities to learn and grow.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who brings warmth, creativity and a genuine belief that everyone deserves opportunities to live a fulfilling life.

You'll be someone who

Enjoys getting involved in creative activities and helping people explore new experiences.

Can build positive relationships and communicate effectively with people who have different communication needs.

Is flexible, reliable and comfortable working as part of a team.

Understands the importance of dignity, choice, independence and safeguarding.

Is willing to provide personal care and practical support where required.

Is enthusiastic about learning new skills and developing their knowledge.

Experience supporting people with complex disabilities, sensory impairments or additional communication needs would be beneficial, but your attitude, values and willingness to learn are just as important.

Why join Sense?

We want our colleagues to feel supported, valued and able to develop throughout their careers.

As part of Sense, you'll have access to a range of employee benefits, including

24 days' annual leave plus Bank Holiday entitlement, increasing with service, with leave arrangements reflecting your contracted working pattern.

Learning and development opportunities, including online and face-to-face training.

Leadership and management development opportunities.

Health and wellbeing support.

A workplace pension.

Employee discounts and other benefits, subject to eligibility.

And with a Monday to Friday daytime working pattern, you'll have your evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays free.
