About this role
The School of Architecture at the Royal College of Art is seeking to appoint a Tutor (Research) to contribute to the development and delivery of its ambitious research agenda, alongside high quality teaching and academic citizenship. The postholder will maintain an active programme of research, producing high-quality outputs, securing external funding opportunities, and enhancing the School's reputation through scholarly activity and professional engagement.
Candidates should demonstrate research or practice-based expertise in one of the following areas
Climate change and its relationship to the built and natural environment, including how environments are understood and experienced across different scales and epistemological perspectives;
Architectural histories of the Global South, particularly West Asian, Southeast Asian or African contexts, including decolonial approaches that situate architecture within broader cultural and anthropological frameworks.
Models of green transition within architecture especially in relation to impacts of heat and water stress within cities and the role of design innovation.
Systems of representation within curatorial and exhibition-based practices within architecture and the visual arts, especially relating to spatial representation, technology and performance.
Working closely with Professor Adrian Lahoud and the wider academic team, the postholder will contribute to the development of major research initiatives, publications, and preparation of applications for external and philanthropic funding. The role will involve establishing and strengthening interdisciplinary research partnerships, contributing to the School's Annual Research Programme, and supporting the dissemination of research through high-quality publications, exhibitions, conferences, public events and other forms of academic and professional engagement.
