About this role

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated Specialist Doctor to join the Breast Surgery team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy specialist service, providing senior clinical care across the breast pathway. The post holder will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to outpatient assessment, elective operating, peri-operative care and the ongoing development and delivery of the service.

The post will provide additional senior surgical capacity to support the service in delivering timely cancer care and increasing elective activity. The successful candidate will also play an important role in supporting the expansion of elective surgery through the Surgical Elective Centre (SEC), including delivery of additional operating capacity as the centre becomes operational.

We are looking for an experienced doctor who is able to work autonomously within their scope of practice, demonstrates sound clinical judgement and is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred breast care.

The post holder will work as part of the Breast Surgery multidisciplinary team and will undertake a broad range of clinical duties across the breast pathway.

Key responsibilities will include

  • Undertaking breast outpatient clinics, including assessment and follow-up of patients.
  • Contributing to elective breast operating lists and providing appropriate peri-operative and post-operative clinical care.
  • Supporting the delivery of timely cancer treatment and the service's ongoing work to improve cancer pathway performance.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary working and contributing to relevant MDT meetings.
  • Providing senior clinical assessment, decision-making and management of patients within the post holder's agreed scope of competence.
  • Supporting additional elective activity, including weekend operating where required.
  • Providing appropriate cross-cover for surgical activity to support continuity and effective utilisation of available theatre capacity.
  • Supporting the delivery of breast surgical activity through the Surgical Elective Centre (SEC), including undertaking additional operating lists and reviewing patients within the SEC as required.
  • Contributing to clinical governance, audit, teaching, service development and continuous improvement within the Breast Surgery service.
  • Working flexibly across Oxford University Hospitals sites in accordance with service requirements and the agreed job plan.
