Please note that due to the expected high volume of applications, this advert may close early once a sufficient number of applications has been received.
The post involves the day-to-day care of ward patients, working alongside and supporting the Foundation Year 1 trainee. The JCF will take part in daily ward rounds with FY1s, Senior Clinical Fellows and Consultants, and will contribute to the management of emergency referrals from the Emergency Department, as well as supporting activity within the Urgent Care Centre.
The Junior Clinical Fellow (JCF) will work as part of the surgical team, contributing to the delivery of both elective and emergency care across the departments – Urology & General Surgery.
Key responsibilities include participation in an on-call rota (covering General Surgery, Breast and Urology), including nights and weekends. When on-call, the post holder will be fully dedicated to emergency work, supporting the acute team under the supervision of the Consultant of the Week, with no elective commitments during this time.
The weekly rota is coordinated by the Service Manager and includes a mix of clinical activities across theatre, outpatient clinics and ward-based care. The JCF will contribute to colorectal and upper GI ward rounds, theatre sessions (including CEPOD and Trauma), and outpatient clinics, with allocations varying on a weekly basis within a rolling rota pattern.
Attendance at the daily handover meeting (08:00–08:30) is mandatory for all staff transitioning on and off duty to ensure safe and effective continuity of care.
The role also includes active participation in multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs), teaching, audit and research activity.
