About this role

The TLC Care ethos is people come first. We have an impressive track record of delivering high quality services, and we expect our team members to give their best and strive for continuous improvement in everything we do.

You will design, build and deploy AI agents and automations that make a real difference to how we work.

Across our organisation, too much time still goes on work that is manual, repetitive or slow. As our AI Automation Intern, you will find the workflows where AI can make the biggest difference, then build practical AI agents, automations and integrations that people use every day. Working with Python, LLMs, APIs and databases, you will take ideas from prototype to production and show the measurable impact they have. This is not a theoretical research project. It is a hands-on build role, focused on real deployment in a live organisation.

About TLC Care. Our Support Office provides the central People, Finance, Operations and Marketing services that keep our organisation running smoothly. We hold Investors in People Platinum because we invest meaningfully in our team members, and our values of Truth, Love and Compassion run through everything we do. We believe digital readiness and the confident use of AI are essential to our future, and this role sits at the heart of that ambition, helping our teams to work smarter and spend more time on the work that matters most.

The Role. You will work across the business to understand how current workflows operate, identify high-value opportunities for AI and automation, and design, build and test solutions with the people who will use them. Examples could include AI agents that handle administrative workflows end to end; automations that connect our systems through APIs and remove manual data entry; retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) assistants that give teams fast, accurate answers from our policies, procedures and knowledge bases; tools that pull, clean and report on data from our databases; and LLM-powered agents that help teams draft documents, correspondence and marketing content.

What You Will Be Doing. Spending time with teams across the business to understand how work gets done and where the inefficiencies are. Identifying tasks that can be automated or significantly improved with AI, and prioritising those with the greatest value. Designing and building AI agents and automations in Python, using LLMs and agent-based workflows to complete multi-step tasks. Integrating with internal and third-party systems through APIs, and reading from and writing to databases to keep information accurate and connected. Building RAG pipelines that ground LLM responses in our own documents and data, with a focus on accuracy and reliability. Managing your code with version control in GitHub, using branches, pull requests and clear documentation so your work can be reviewed, maintained and built upon. Testing your solutions with real users, gathering feedback and improving them quickly. Making sure everything you build handles personal and sensitive information safely and in line with data protection requirements. Measuring and reporting the impact of your work, such as time saved, faster turnaround and improved consistency or quality.

What Success Looks Like. By the end of your placement, you will have delivered several working AI agents or automations, reduced manual effort in important workflows, improved speed, consistency or quality for our teams, built solutions that can be scaled across the business, and demonstrated clear, practical impact from your work.

What We Are Looking For. Hands-on experience of building AI agents, automations or workflow tools, whether through study, side projects, hackathons or work. Strong Python skills. A good understanding of LLMs, prompt engineering and agent-based workflows. Experience of working with APIs, including REST APIs and JSON. Working knowledge of databases and SQL. Familiarity with RAG, including embeddings and vector search. Confident use of version control with Git and GitHub. Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, delivery-focused mindset, with the ability to work independently and take ownership. Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain technical ideas simply to colleagues who are not technical. Experience with automation and orchestration tools or agent frameworks, cloud platforms, an awareness of data protection and GDPR, and examples of prototypes or projects you have already shipped are all desirable. We care more about what you have built than your formal experience. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory DBS check, references and evidence of the legal right to work in the UK.

Key Skills. AI Agents, LLMs, RAG, Python, APIs, Databases, Automation and Version Control (GitHub).

Personal Qualities. You are values-led and role model Truth, Love and Compassion in everything you do. You are curious, resourceful and quick to learn, and you enjoy turning ideas into working systems. You are approachable and collaborative, comfortable spending time with people at every level of the organisation, and you understand that the best technology is the technology people actually want to use. You value ownership over hierarchy, clarity over unnecessary process and impact over activity.

What We Offer. Real AI projects in a live organisation, building tools that our teams depend on. The freedom to explore different use cases and take ownership of delivery. An impressive portfolio of applied AI work with visible impact across multiple teams. A values-led organisation that holds Investors in People Platinum accreditation because it invests meaningfully in its people. The chance to see your work make a real difference across the organisation, and the potential to extend into a longer-term contract for strong candidates.

Our values are Truth, Love and Compassion. If these resonate with you, we would love to hear from you.

How to Apply. To apply, please send your CV and a short covering letter telling us why this role appeals to you, along with a link to your GitHub profile or examples of AI agents, automations or prototypes you have built. We review applications on a rolling basis and encourage early applications. TLC Care is an equal opportunities employer. All appointments are subject to satisfactory DBS checks and references.
