About this role
We’re recruiting for a Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser and Science Office Deputy Director here at Justice Digital, Data & Science to be part of our warm and collaborative team. Justice Digital, Data & Science (JDDS) is at the heart of transforming how justice is delivered.
We design, build and run digital services, platforms, technology and data capabilities that support colleagues, courts, prisons, probation, legal aid and wider justice services every day. Working in partnership across the Ministry of Justice and its agencies, JDDS act as a capable, knowledgeable and confident partner to the department, bringing coherence to technology, trusted data, intelligence to decision-making, and disciplined delivery to execution under system pressure.
The MoJ Science Office sits alongside the Data Directorate and serves as the department’s centre of expertise for science, research and development (R&D), futures, and emerging technology. The team ensures that decision-making across the justice system is informed by robust evidence, scientific thinking and forward looking insight. The Science Office works across policy, operational, and service transformation communities to address complex challenges through research, innovation and strategic partnerships. Its portfolio spans science advice, behavioural science, futures and emerging technology.
The Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser (dCSA) supports the Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) in providing strategic scientific advice across the Ministry of Justice, ensuring that policy, operational delivery and investment decisions are underpinned by robust evidence. The postholder leads the Science Office and is responsible for the delivery of the department’s research, development and innovation portfolio, ensuring that science and technology are effectively embedded across MoJ priorities.
