About this role

The successful applicant will be able to work with laboratory equipment and processes across the Blood Sciences disciplines (Biochemistry, Send away Bench and Central Pathology Reception).

Whilst full training will be provided, proven experience of working in a diagnostic pathology department and knowledge across a range of laboratory procedures will be advantageous. The successful candidates will be expected to participate in the shift system after suitable training. Continuous professional development (CPD) will be encouraged.

There may be a need for the successful candidate to change their usual working location to one of the other SWLP laboratories in the future.

The South West London Pathology laboratories at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust operate a 24-hour service, providing diagnostic support to busy Emergency Departments, acute services, inpatient and outpatient services, and primary care across both the Epsom and St Helier sites.

The Clinical Biochemistry laboratories operate Beckman Coulter analytical and automation systems, including DxI 9000 immunoassay analysers, AU5800 chemistry analysers, DxA 5000 laboratory automation systems and DxONE Inventory Manager, alongside other specialist analytical platforms including TOSOH analysers.

The post holder will work primarily within the Clinical Biochemistry section, supporting Biomedical Scientists and other members of the laboratory team in delivering a safe, efficient and high-quality diagnostic service.

Following appropriate training and competency assessment, the post holder will undertake a range of laboratory support duties including specimen preparation and processing, operation of laboratory automation and analytical equipment within their scope of practice, management of samples and consumables, and other delegated laboratory activities.

The successful applicant will be expected to work flexibly according to service requirements and participate in the departmental shift system, including out-of-hours working, following completion of the required training and competency assessments.
