About this role

What will I be doing in my new role?

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Activity Coordinator team. You will be responsible for planning, developing and delivering group activities and individual one-to-one sessions for patients living with dementia or experiencing confusion.

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide a varied and engaging programme of activities tailored to patients’ individual needs, interests and abilities, supporting their wellbeing and enhancing their experience during their hospital stay.

The post is 37.5 hours per week, worked over five days. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet patients’ needs and support the delivery of activities.

What about the department I will join?

You will join a team of four Band 3 Activity Coordinators based across our Care of the Elderly wards.

We currently have a vacancy covering Arnold Whitchurch Ward and Russell Ward, with your time shared between the two wards. Each ward accommodates 16 patients. Arnold Whitchurch Ward is a female ward, while Russell Ward is a male ward.

Ward staff will identify suitable patients each day who would benefit from additional support, supervision and engagement in meaningful activities. You will work with these patients to provide appropriate individual and group activities that promote social interaction, cognitive stimulation and overall wellbeing.

Although full in-house training will be provided for this role, candidates must have some prior skills and experience in working with people with cognitive impairment.

The essential skills and experience required for this position are outlined in the Personal Specification and Job Description available on NHS Jobs. However, we have highlighted three key requirements below:

•

Relevant experience

Experience working in a healthcare setting as a Clinical Support Worker or Rehabilitation Assistant, ideally supporting patients living with dementia or experiencing mental health difficulties.

•

Managing challenging situations

The ability to respond to challenging situations calmly, professionally and with patience.

•

Compassionate communication

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, carers, relatives and colleagues.
