About this role

Garrison families deploy at short notice. University staff and commuters travel. Colchester is full of households where the dog needs looking after at home and nobody is there to do it. We are asking for three self-employed pet sitters, in the owner's own home. We are not asking for walkers; that is another advert.

The work may be one visit a day, a weekend, or a month. You follow the owner's instructions for food and medication, take the dog out, keep it company and send a daily update. Owners value a sitter who keeps in touch and does not need chasing.

WoofWalk is a UK booking app, not your employer: no wage, no promise of work. Set your price per visit and per night, choose the bookings you want, and owners book and pay through the app. Afterwards the money is paid out to your bank account. Tax, National Insurance and insurance are things you must arrange. We have no price research for Colchester sitting, so we will not suggest a figure.

Dogs staying at your own place would be home boarding. It needs a council licence in advance, and the app treats it as a distinct service. Sitting in the owner's home needs no licence.

The commission is straightforward. Free to join. Free for 14 days. Then 15% of each booking, falling to 10% for life when five of your own clients have joined through you. Clients you introduce yourself pay 10% starting with their first booking.

You must be over 18. When you apply on Find a Job, tell us how far across Colchester and its edges you can travel, and whether overnights suit.
