About this role
An exceptional opportunity for a mid-level Enterprise Risk Manager to shape the future of Financial Services in Cardiff.
Financial Services firms are under more regulatory pressure than at any point in the last decade. This established and growing business, an SME operating across the sector, needs an Enterprise Risk Manager who can bring order to that pressure rather than just react to it. It's a role with real weight behind it, based in Cardiff, where the Financial Services scene continues to expand.
Here's what you'll be doing
Own the enterprise risk framework end to end, from identification through to reporting at board level
Build and refine risk registers, stress-testing models and control assessments specific to Financial Services operations
Work closely with compliance, finance and operational teams to embed risk thinking into everyday decisions
Prepare regulatory submissions and liaise directly with external regulators when required
Track emerging risks, from cyber threats to market volatility, and translate them into practical mitigation plans
Lead on internal audits and drive remediation where gaps appear
Here are the skills you'll need
Solid grounding in enterprise risk management within Financial Services, ideally 5+ years in a similar function
Working knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks (PRA, FCA, or equivalent)
Confidence presenting risk findings to senior stakeholders, without dressing them up or hiding the bad news
Strong analytical skills paired with genuinely sound judgement under pressure
A relevant qualification (CFA, FRM, or similar) is useful but not the be all and end all
The ability to write clearly. Risk reports that nobody can understand help nobody
Key perks and benefits
Salary of £52,500 to £72,500, plus bonus scheme
Hybrid working, with time split between the Cardiff office and home
Private medical insurance and a solid pension contribution
Generous annual leave with flexible working built in, not bolted on
Genuine professional development opportunities, including support toward further qualifications
Why pursue a career in Financial Services?
Financial Services in the UK is growing again, and Cardiff has become one of the more interesting places to build a career in it, with a lower cost of living than London but no shortage of ambition. An Enterprise Risk Manager who does this job well becomes indispensable fast. Good risk people are rare, and the ones who combine technical skill with plain speaking tend to move upward quickly.
