About this role
Make your mark as an Agricultural Sustainability Specialist in the AgriTech sector, based in Manchester.
UK farming is under pressure to cut emissions, use water more carefully and prove its credentials to supermarkets and regulators alike. This growing AgriTech business, an established SME with a track record of building tools and services for the farming sector, is expanding its sustainability function to keep pace with demand. It's a business that has scaled steadily rather than chased headlines, and it needs someone who can turn environmental targets into practical, farm-level change.
Here's what you'll be doing
Assess client farms and agricultural operations against sustainability benchmarks, then build improvement plans that actually get used
Work with product and data teams to shape the sustainability features built into the company's AgriTech platform
Track carbon, water and soil health metrics across a portfolio of accounts, flagging risks before they become problems
Write clear reports for clients and internal stakeholders, translating technical findings into decisions people can act on
Keep on top of UK and EU agricultural policy changes and feed relevant updates into the business
Support pilot projects trialling new sustainable farming methods, from regenerative practices to precision input use
Here are the skills you'll need
A degree in agriculture, environmental science, or a closely related field
A few years' experience in sustainability, agronomy or environmental consultancy, ideally with exposure to farming systems
Comfortable reading data and using it to make a case. You don't need to be a data scientist, but spreadsheets shouldn't scare you
Strong written communication. You'll be explaining technical detail to people who don't have your background
Good at managing your own workload and prioritising across several client accounts at once
An interest in how technology is changing agriculture, not just farming practice on its own
Key perks and benefits
Salary of £34,500 to £44,000, depending on experience
Bonus scheme on top of base salary
Private medical insurance and pension contribution
Hybrid working, split between the Manchester office and home
Generous annual leave and flexible working arrangements, plus genuine room to grow into a senior specialist or lead role
Why pursue a career in AgriTech?
AgriTech is one of the few sectors where technology, environmental policy and food security genuinely collide, and that makes the work harder to get bored of. Manchester has built up a solid cluster of agriculture and food-tech businesses in recent years, so it's a sensible base if you want your next move to be here too rather than somewhere else. Get good at this and the career path tends to look after itself: consultancies, food producers and government bodies are all short of people who understand both farming and data.
