About this role
Step into this Machine Learning Software Engineer role and build something that matters in AI & Technology.
Scotland's AI sector has grown fast, and the firms doing the interesting work tend to be the mid-sized ones, not the giants.
This is one of them
an established AI & Technology company based in Glasgow, big enough to have real infrastructure and client relationships, small enough that your code ships without six layers of sign-off. They're growing deliberately, not scrambling, and they need a Machine Learning Software Engineer who wants to build production systems rather than just tinker with notebooks.
Here's what you'll be doing
Design and build machine learning pipelines that go into production, not just proof-of-concept demos
Write clean, maintainable Python code that other engineers can actually work with
Take models from research through to deployment, then keep an eye on how they perform once they're live
Work with data engineers and product teams to turn vague requirements into working systems
Debug model drift, data quality issues, and the inevitable gap between training and reality
Document your approach clearly enough that someone else can pick it up in six months
Here are the skills you'll need
Solid commercial experience building and deploying machine learning models, ideally 3+ years
Strong Python skills, with working knowledge of frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow
Comfort with ML
Ops practices
versioning, monitoring, CI/CD for models, not just scripts that run once
Understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure or GCP) and how ML workloads actually run on it
The ability to explain technical trade-offs to people who aren't engineers
A pragmatic streak. Perfect models that never ship help nobody
Key perks and benefits
Salary of £45,500 to £70,000, depending on experience
Private medical insurance and pension contribution
Hybrid working, with flexibility built in rather than bolted on
Bonus scheme tied to company and individual performance
Annual leave that respects the fact you have a life outside work
Why pursue a career in AI & Technology?
AI & Technology isn't slowing down, and Glasgow has quietly become one of the better UK cities to build a career in it, with a growing cluster of serious employers and a lower cost of living than London. A Machine Learning Software Engineer who can actually ship working systems will always be in demand.
The skills compound too
every model you take to production makes the next one easier.
