About this role
About us
Since 2011, the Bike Shed has been a place of Common Ground, where people from all walks of life come together over a shared love of two wheels, whether they ride or not. Our Shoreditch home brings together a restaurant and bar, barbershop, store, members’ club and event space under one roof, and we’ve taken the Bike Shed across the Atlantic with our sister venue in Los Angeles.
The kitchen is at the heart of it all. We serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and desserts Tuesday to Sunday, with weekend brunch from 9am, alongside a busy calendar of live music, DJ nights, themed parties, club events and private hire.
Our menu is honest, generous food, from full breakfasts and weekend brunch to burgers, steaks, salads, sharing plates and house desserts. Everything is cooked to order, we make plenty in-house, and our meat comes from a family-run butcher working with free-range British farmers.
We’re looking for a Chef de
Partie to join that kitchen
someone who takes pride in their section, cooks great food consistently, and wants to grow with a team that people enjoy being part of.
What you’ll be doing
Your section & the food
Running your own section across breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and desserts
Cooking every dish to the recipe specs and plating guides so standards stay consistent every service
Contributing ideas for specials and new dishes as the menu evolves with the seasons
Taking ownership of the quality and presentation of everything that leaves your section
Prep & kitchen operations
Planning and completing your mise en place so you’re set up for everything from a Saturday brunch rush to a late Friday service
Working the line with pace and calm when it’s busy, and supporting other sections when needed
Keeping your section and the wider kitchen clean, organised and well maintained
Stock & waste
Rotating stock, labelling correctly and keeping waste to a minimum
Helping with deliveries, ordering needs and weekly stock takes
Flagging shortages or quality issues to the Head Chef or Sous Chef early
Events & venue hire
Prepping and cooking for our events programme, from live music nights and themed parties to club gatherings
Helping deliver menus for private hire, corporate events, launches and functions in our event space
People & training
Supporting and training commis chefs and kitchen porters on your section
Being a positive, respectful part of a kitchen culture that reflects the Bike Shed’s “leave your differences at the door” ethos
Learning from the Head Chef and Sous Chef, with real opportunities to develop and progress
Compliance & safety
Following food safety, HACCP procedures and completing kitchen documentation accurately
Careful allergen management and labelling, including Natasha’s Law compliance
Helping us maintain our 5-star food hygiene rating
Working safely in line with health and safety and COSHH practices
What you’ll get
Mondays off generally, as the venue is closed. There may be rare occasions where Monday work is required for events or the annual show
Staff meals and discount across the restaurant, bar and Bike Shed store
Discount at our Barbershop, Retail store and Restaurant
The chance to contribute ideas and specials in one of London’s most distinctive venues
Training and a clear path to grow and flourish within a great, friendly company with venues in London and Los Angeles
