Are you an experienced travel consultant with a passion for India and tailormade travel?
We're looking for an experienced India & Indian Subcontinent Travel Specialist to join an established, specialist tour operator based in Harrow.
With 30 years of experience creating bespoke holidays, our client has built its reputation on in-depth destination knowledge, personalised itineraries and exceptional customer service.
The Indian Subcontinent is at the heart of the business, with specialist holidays across India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Their wider portfolio also includes complex Silk road journeys through Central Asia, particularly Uzbekistan, alongside cultural adventures across Southeast Asia.
This is an opportunity for a travel professional who understands the region, enjoys designing individual itineraries and has the sales ability to turn customer enquiries into confirmed bookings.
You'll primarily work with inbound enquiries, helping customers plan distinctive holidays that reflect their interests, expectations and budgets. You'll also develop new business, nurture existing relationships and contribute to the continued growth of the business.
What's on offer?
- £28,000–£30,000 basic salary, depending on experience
- Commission based on sales performance
- Monday–Friday working hours, 9:30 am–5:30 pm
- Flexibility around start and finish times may be considered
- 23 days' earned leave in a tax year
- Pension scheme
- Private GP provision
- Annual salary review
- The opportunity to work with a specialist tour operator with 30 years of destination
expertise
Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during particularly busy periods.
The role
You'll manage the sales journey from the initial enquiry through to booking, using your destination knowledge and consultative sales skills to create holidays that customers will remember.
Your responsibilities will include
- Converting inbound enquiries into confirmed holiday bookings
- Designing tailor-made itineraries, particularly across India and the wider Indian
Subcontinent
- Advising customers on destinations, regional highlights, accommodation and
experiences
- Creating personalised proposals based on customers' interests, budgets and
travel preferences
- Selling the value of bespoke travel experiences rather than competing solely on price
- Following up enquiries and progressing sales opportunities
- Proactively generating business during quieter periods
- Building strong relationships with existing clients and encouraging repeat bookings
- Using your specialist knowledge to inspire customers and build confidence in their
travel plans
- Working collaboratively with the wider sales team to achieve commercial targets
You'll have the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio, including India's cultural and regional highlights, Nepal and Bhutan's mountain landscapes, Sri Lanka's heritage and wildlife, and the Maldives' island experiences. You'll also gain exposure to specialist itineraries along the Silk Road and across Southeast Asia.
What we're looking for
Strong knowledge of India and the wider Indian Subcontinent is essential.
We're looking for someone who combines genuine destination expertise with proven sales ability and experience creating bespoke holidays.
You'll ideally have
- Around 3–4 years of relevant travel industry and sales experience
- Previous experience with a specialist tour operator or tailor-made travel business
- Strong knowledge of India and the wider Indian Subcontinent
- Experience designing individual itineraries and selling specialist holidays
- A proven ability to convert inbound enquiries into bookings
- Experience selling high-value or bespoke travel experiences
- A consultative approach to sales and customer relationship management
- Experience generating new business and managing existing client relationships
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A confident, personable and commercially driven approach
- A genuine passion for travel and the ability to bring destinations to life for customers
Knowledge of Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives would be particularly valuable.
Experience with Uzbekistan, the Silk Road or Southeast Asia would also be an advantage.
About the company
Our client is a specialist tour operator with 30 years of experience designing personalised holidays across some of the world's most fascinating destinations.
The Indian Subcontinent is their founding specialism, complemented by complex Silk Road itineraries through Central Asia and bespoke cultural journeys across Southeast Asia.
Their approach is built around destination expertise, individual itineraries and a personalised service that goes beyond standard package holidays.
You'll be joining an established business where specialist knowledge and the ability to create genuinely memorable travel experiences are central to what they do.
