About the Team
SRUC Veterinary Services provides disease surveillance and analytical testing via our Veterinary and Analytical Laboratory and our network of disease surveillance hubs situated throughout Scotland. We provide national veterinary disease surveillance for the Scottish Government and collaborate with APHA to support statutory disease control schemes.
Our Veterinary Services team are experts in animal disease diagnosis, and we process 600,000 samples each year. Close links with research and development activities within SRUC and in several other academic and research institutions ensure that our UK, EU and international clients benefit from practical support coupled with expert scientific advice.
Our suite of services supports clients like vets, farmers and pharmaceutical companies by providing diagnostic testing for farm livestock and companion animals, as well as livestock health schemes, livestock health planning, veterinary CPD courses and external quality assessment schemes.
The Opportunity
The Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Operational Analyst is responsible for ensuring the effective operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of LIMS, a business-critical platform that underpins all aspects of SRUC Veterinary Services’ laboratory and disease surveillance activities. Supporting the management of approximately 600,000 samples annually, the postholder acts as the principal Veterinary Services subject matter expert for LIMS, serving as the key liaison between operational users and Information and Digital Services (IDS).
The role is responsible for ensuring that LIMS accurately supports business processes across sample registration, laboratory testing, results reporting, invoicing, management information and regulatory requirements. This includes maintaining the integrity of core system data, gathering and analysing business requirements, developing specifications for system enhancements, and coordinating user acceptance testing to ensure successful implementation of system changes.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across Veterinary Services and IDS, the postholder will drive the ongoing development and optimisation of LIMS, translating operational needs into effective system solutions that enhance service delivery, data quality and business efficiency. The role plays a vital part in ensuring that the system remains robust, compliant and aligned with both current operational demands and future organisational requirements.
Given the high-volume and business-critical nature of Veterinary Services’ activities, the postholder must ensure that all responsibilities are carried out accurately, consistently and in a timely manner to minimise operational risk and maintain confidence in the service provided to customers, stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
