About this role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our fast-paced Acute Medicine Team, working across the Emergency Department and Acute Medical Unit. You will contribute to the 0–72-hour pathway, providing timely assessment and intervention early in a patient’s admission.
Working closely with Occupational Therapy and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will help maintain mobility and independence, reduce hospital-associated deconditioning, support safe discharge and identify opportunities for admission avoidance. The varied caseload offers extensive exposure to a broad range of specialist presentations, including respiratory, orthopaedic and neurological conditions.
You will use advanced clinical reasoning and demonstrate clinical autonomy within a supportive MDT. Strong communication, organisation and decision-making skills are essential, alongside the flexibility to respond to changing priorities.
Our team includes a Band 7, Band 6 and Band 5 physiotherapists and a Band 4 associate practitioner, supported by a Principal Band 8a Physiotherapist. We offer opportunities for personal development, supervision of junior colleagues, education, audit and service improvement. The team is committed to evidence-based practice, emerging research and using key performance indicators to evaluate and improve the service.
If you are passionate about acute care and want to make an impact at the front door, we would be delighted to hear from you.
- Deliver high-quality physiotherapy services, assessing and treating patients, including those with complex needs, using evidence-based practice.
- Undertake comprehensive patient assessments, formulate individualised management and treatment plans, and implement a range of specialised interventions.
- Maintain professional and legal accountability for all aspects of clinical practice, including accurate patient documentation and adherence to professional guidelines.
- Demonstrate expertise in clinical governance and risk management, ensuring that treatment plans are supported by current evidence.
- Utilise advanced manual techniques and therapeutic handling, often requiring moderate physical effort.
- Stay abreast of developments within the speciality, analyse current research, and implement changes in clinical practice.
- Safely use and ensure the maintenance of physiotherapy equipment, adhering to departmental policies.
- Participate in 7 day working, weekend rotas, emergency on call rotas and extended days as per rotation service need.
