As part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will provide safe, high-quality perioperative care for patients undergoing a wide range of elective and emergency thoracic and breast surgical procedures. Working within one of the region’s leading specialist centres, you will gain experience supporting innovative and complex surgical techniques while contributing to excellent patient outcomes and experiences.

The successful candidate will work across all phases of perioperative care, including anaesthetics and scrub supported by experienced practitioners and a comprehensive development programme. Whether you are newly qualified or looking to further develop your specialist theatre skills, we offer a supportive environment with opportunities for professional growth, education and career progression.

You will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills, a commitment to patient-centred care, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced theatre environment. Flexibility, teamwork and a proactive approach to learning are essential.

Joining the Thoracic and Breast Theatre team at Glenfield Hospital offers the opportunity to be part of a friendly, dynamic service committed to clinical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement while supporting the delivery of outstanding surgical care to our patients:

  • Delivering high standards of perioperative patient care.
  • Assisting in anaesthetic and scrub roles as required.
  • Supporting complex thoracic and breast surgical procedures.
  • Working collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintaining patient safety and adhering to theatre policies, standards and infection prevention practices.
  • Participating in ongoing professional development and service improvement initiatives.

This post represents an excellent opportunity for a passionate and caring practitioner to develop their theatre career within a specialist surgical environment at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
