About this role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our operational management team in Specialist Medicine. The role of Deputy Service Manager will lead the day-to-day operational duties for their delegated portfolio. This role is considered a senior member of the operational team within the Directorate and will be working closely with Lead Nurses and Clinical Leads as part of the service triumvirate. We are looking for an individual that can demonstrate a strong understanding of core operational principles such as waiting list management, rota coordination, maximising utilisation, service improvement, financial and budget management, patient flow and management of risks, DATIX and complaints. The role is busy and requires strong leadership skills, high attention to detail and good organisation skills.

The post will cover Dermatology and Rheumatology. The services in this portfolio include some of the most marginalised members of society so the appointed candidate would need to be able to demonstrate high levels of empathy and awareness of the importance of equality, equity, diversity and inclusion in healthcare services.

The role will be based at the Royal London Hospital, but the successful candidate would be expected to spend roughly 50% of their working week at our satellite units in Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forrest and Newham.

As part of the service leadership team, the post-holder will be responsible for ensuring the safe, high quality, efficient and financially sustainable delivery of all services within their portfolio. The postholder will work closely with the service and general management team, the clinical director, senior nurses, clinical and nursing specialty leads, administrative, consultant and nursing teams and the wider multidisciplinary team as required. The postholder will be a key member of the service leadership team including making key day-to-day decisions and managing key workflows and pathways.

The post holder will play a key role in ensuring strong operational delivery of a portfolio of services in the SHaRD Directorate in Specialist Medicine. The SHaRD directorate consists of Dermatology, Rheumatology, Sexual Health, HIV and Community Women’s Health Services. The postholder will be responsible for delegated financial and procurement management, supporting business planning, management of governance, quality and safety standards in line with national frameworks (e.g. PSIRF), management of admin and clerical staff and management of medical rotas. The postholder will be responsible for management and delivery of activity and KPIs in line with agreed business plans and contracts (RTT, cancer, specialist and public health commissioning.
