About this role
Job Advert
We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Plant Collection Supervisor to lead the care, development, and presentation of a diverse and expanding ornamental plant collection.
Over the past decade, the Ornamental Garden has undergone significant transformation, with continued investment in new planting and landscape development. This role plays a key part in maintaining high horticultural standards while shaping a resilient, sustainable, and visually inspiring garden for visitors.
You will provide hands-on leadership to a team of gardeners, trainees, and volunteers, ensuring best practice in plant care, sustainability, and biodiversity. Working collaboratively with senior garden leadership, you will contribute to the long-term planning and evolution of the collection, balancing aesthetic excellence with climate adaptation and ecological responsibility.
This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week over 5 days out of 7.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong horticultural expertise with at least 5 years’ practical experience in ornamental or historic gardens, and excellent plant knowledge
- Proven leadership skills, with experience supervising teams, supporting development, and motivating others
- Commitment to sustainability, including knowledge of soil health, climate-adaptive planting, and biodiversity-friendly practices
- High standards and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain exceptional plant health and garden presentation
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, including confidence using IT systems and maintaining accurate plant records
- A collaborative and proactive approach, with a passion for sharing knowledge, engaging visitors, and contributing to a positive team culture
This role is ideal for someone who thrives outdoors, enjoys working at both a strategic and practical level, and is motivated by the opportunity to nurture both plants and people.
In return
You’ll join a supportive and friendly team within a values-led organisation that genuinely cares about its people.
We offer a range of benefits including a wellbeing calendar of events, an onsite gym and swimming pool, and a Colleague Pass providing free access to Chatsworth for you and your guests, plus discounts across Devonshire Group hotels, shops and restaurants.
