About this role

SEND Support Assistant - Knowsley

Knowsley, Merseyside

Full-Time | £90-£110 per day

If you've supported someone with a learning disability, physical disability, communication need or challenging behaviour, you'll already have skills that specialist schools value.

You know how to be patient without taking over.

You understand that communication doesn't always happen through speech.

You're comfortable adapting your approach to the person in front of you.

And you probably already understand how important dignity, consistency and independence are when providing personal support.

A school in Knowsley is looking for a full-time SEND Support Assistant - and your next move into education might be more straightforward than you think.

You'll support pupils with a range of additional needs throughout the school day.

Education will naturally be part of your role, but pupils may also require support with communication, mobility, personal care, emotional regulation and everyday routines.

You'll work alongside teachers and specialist professionals rather than being expected to manage those needs alone.

Your day could involve

  • Supporting an individual pupil during a classroom activity
  • Helping a small group practise a skill
  • Using visual or alternative communication methods
  • Supporting mobility and physical needs
  • Providing personal care sensitively and respectfully
  • Helping a pupil regulate following a difficult moment
  • Encouraging pupils to make choices and do more independently
  • Following individual support and learning plans
  • Recording observations and progress
  • Working alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals

Great. Previous SEND Teaching Assistant experience would be extremely relevant.

But we're also interested in people coming from

Learning Disability Support | Children's Care | Residential Care | Healthcare | Youth Work | Autism Support | Community Support

You don't necessarily need to know how to teach a lesson - that's the teacher's job.

What you do need is the ability to support a young person to participate in one.

We're looking for people who are

  • Patient and dependable
  • Comfortable supporting a range of additional needs
  • Confident providing personal care where required
  • Able to follow individual plans and professional guidance
  • Good communicators
  • Observant and organised
  • Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Committed to safeguarding and professional boundaries

Experience with assistive technology or alternative communication approaches would also be useful.

This is a full-time position in Knowsley, paying £90-£110 per day depending on experience.

You'll have access to ongoing training and professional development, making this an opportunity to build on the skills you already have while developing specialist experience within SEND education.

So if you've previously looked at school jobs and thought "I haven't worked as a Teaching Assistant", don't automatically rule yourself out.

Your existing experience may be exactly what a pupil needs.

Apply with your CV for this SEND Support Assistant opportunity in Knowsley.
