About this role
We're looking for an experienced Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming education setting in Wigston, supporting pupils who may need a little more time, a different explanation or additional encouragement to engage successfully with learning.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys getting to know individual pupils, understanding what works for them and adapting their support accordingly.
You could start the morning supporting a pupil who is struggling to organise themselves for the day, spend part of a lesson working alongside a small group who need concepts broken down differently, and later provide focused one-to-one support to help a learner complete a piece of work independently.
You'll work alongside teaching staff to identify where pupils need additional help and provide practical support that enables them to participate more confidently in lessons.
That could include
- Breaking learning down into manageable steps
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support
- Reinforcing learning introduced by the class teacher
- Helping pupils develop organisation and study skills
- Adapting resources or approaches for different learning needs
- Encouraging pupils to become increasingly independent rather than reliant on support
- Observing progress and feeding back to teaching staff
- Using appropriate educational technology and assistive resources
- Supporting positive engagement and participation in the classroom
- Keeping accurate records of interventions and pupil progress
We're particularly interested in people who already have experience supporting children or young people with additional or differing learning needs.
You'll need to be someone who can recognise that the same approach won't work for every pupil.
Patience and communication are important, but so are initiative and adaptability. You'll need to know when a pupil needs additional help, when to try a different approach and, equally importantly, when to step back and allow them to succeed independently.
Ideally, you'll bring
- Around two years' experience as a Learning Support Assistant or in a comparable role
- A relevant education, learning support or SEND qualification
- Experience adapting support for different abilities and learning styles
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Confidence working alongside teachers and other education professionals
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills
- Familiarity with educational technology or assistive learning tools
- A flexible and reliable approach to your work
You'll be joining an established team where learning support is an important part of helping pupils access education successfully.
The role offers a daily rate of £100-£120, depending on your experience and qualifications, alongside opportunities to develop your skills through ongoing training and professional development.
Most importantly, you'll have the opportunity to see the progress your support helps create - whether that's improved confidence, greater independence, better engagement or a pupil finally understanding something they've previously struggled with.
If you're an experienced Learning Support Assistant looking for your next full-time opportunity in Wigston, we'd like to hear from you.
