Not every student finds learning straightforward.

Some need more time. Others need information presented differently. Some may need help managing emotions, communicating their needs or simply believing they're capable of succeeding.

We're recruiting an Additional Needs Support Assistant to work with children and young people in an education setting in Exeter.

Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available, making this an excellent option whether you're looking for regular full-time work or a role that fits around other commitments.

Your role will focus on helping pupils overcome the individual barriers that can make education more difficult.

You'll work closely with teachers and other professionals to

  • Provide individualised learning support.
  • Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and within small groups.
  • Reinforce classroom learning.
  • Adapt activities to different abilities and learning styles.
  • Encourage pupils to participate confidently.
  • Support communication and social development.
  • Help young people develop independence.
  • Build positive and appropriate relationships.
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Help prepare appropriate learning resources.
  • Monitor progress and communicate observations to colleagues.
  • Contribute to an inclusive and welcoming learning environment.

You might already be a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant, but we're also interested in people whose experience comes from:

Care • Youth Work • Coaching • Mentoring • Children's Services • Residential Support • SEND

We're looking for people who can combine empathy with consistency.

You'll need good communication skills, patience, flexibility and the ability to remain calm when a pupil is struggling.

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one will be required.

This opportunity offers

  • £14.50 per hour.
  • Full-time and part-time positions.
  • An immediate start.
  • Experience supporting diverse learning needs.
  • Ongoing professional development.
  • Support from experienced education professionals.
  • Valuable experience for a future career within education or SEND.

If you'd like a role where your support can help a young person become more confident and independent, we'd love to hear from you.
