About this role
£120-£225 per day | Full-Time | Nottingham
You know how to teach. But you also know that with SEND, sometimes the original lesson plan lasts about ten minutes.
A pupil needs more processing time.
The task needs simplifying without losing its purpose.
Someone needs a movement break before they're ready to learn.
Another pupil flies through something you expected to take all morning.
So you adapt.
We're looking for a qualified SEND Teacher in Nottingham who is comfortable doing exactly that.
This is a role for someone who can walk into a classroom with a clear plan, but isn't afraid to change it when the pupils in front of them need something different.
The job
Teach pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, plan appropriate learning, assess progress and work closely with the other adults supporting each child.
The pay
£120-£225 per day, depending on experience and placement.
What you'll actually be responsible for
- Planning and teaching lessons at an appropriate level for your pupils.
- Turning curriculum objectives into learning that is accessible and achievable.
- Differentiating without lowering expectations.
- Working with individual learning plans and EHCP outcomes.
- Assessing where pupils are now and deciding what needs to happen next.
- Directing Teaching Assistants effectively within your classroom.
- Supporting behaviour, engagement and emotional regulation.
- Keeping appropriate records of learning and progress.
- Working with SEND professionals, families and colleagues around the pupil.
What we need from you
QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification is essential.
You'll also need genuine experience of teaching or supporting pupils with SEND and the confidence to manage a classroom where needs, abilities and communication styles may vary considerably.
We're not looking for one particular teaching personality.
You might be creative and energetic. You might be calm, structured and methodical. Both can work brilliantly in SEND.
What matters is that you can read your classroom, adapt your teaching and understand why you're making those adaptations.
Strong behaviour management, good communication and experience of personalised or differentiated teaching will all be important.
And you'll need to be comfortable working as part of a wider team. SEND teaching involves collaboration - with Teaching Assistants, SEND leaders, therapists, pastoral teams and families - rather than one teacher working behind a closed classroom door.
Already working in SEND? This could give you experience within a different setting or pupil group.
Mainstream teacher considering specialist education? If you have strong SEND experience and adaptive teaching skills, we'd also be interested in hearing from you.
Interested?
Send us your CV and we'll talk you through the setting, pupils and expectations so you can decide whether it's the right role for you.
