About this role

A PPA Teacher role can offer the best bits of primary teaching - getting to know different pupils, teaching across the curriculum and bringing fresh energy into the classroom - without being tied to one class all week.

Peak Education Recruitment is recruiting a Part-Time PPA Teacher for a primary school in Lewisham.

You'll provide planned PPA cover across the school, stepping into different classrooms and ensuring pupils continue to receive purposeful, engaging teaching while their usual teacher is out of class.

It's a role that particularly suits teachers who enjoy variety.

One day could see you teaching English with one year group and moving onto science, humanities or creative curriculum activities with another. You'll quickly get to know different classes, routines and personalities across the school.

Successful PPA teachers tend to be adaptable, organised and confident classroom practitioners.

You'll need to establish yourself quickly with pupils, maintain existing classroom expectations and be comfortable adjusting your teaching for different ages and abilities.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Delivering planned lessons across different classes and year groups.
  • Ensuring learning continues effectively during PPA cover.
  • Adapting activities for different abilities and additional needs.
  • Maintaining positive behaviour and established classroom routines.
  • Working effectively with Teaching Assistants and support staff.
  • Providing feedback to class teachers where appropriate.
  • Creating a positive learning environment, even when you're only with a class for part of the week.

You might be an experienced teacher who wants greater flexibility or a better work-life balance.

Perhaps you're returning to teaching after a break.

Or you may simply enjoy the variety of teaching different classes more than having responsibility for the same class five days a week.

Whatever your reason, you'll need strong primary classroom experience, confident behaviour management and the ability to build rapport with pupils quickly.

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an appropriate equivalent teaching qualification will be required.
