About this role
The role
The Research Outputs Manager will be responsible for managing and developing Oxford Brookes’ institutional repository service. They will oversee key workflows designed to ensure that research outputs comply with University policies, funder open access mandates, requirements of the REF, and legal and ethical standards. The role will be based at our Headington campus, report to the Research & Infrastructure Lead, and collaborate closely with colleagues across the University who support researchers.
About the team
Part of the Directorate of Learning Resources, the Open Research Team facilitates staff and student researchers at Oxford Brookes to manage, share, and publish their research outputs. Our services cover areas such as research outputs management, open access, research data management, and compliance with policies and good practice for open research. Open Research Team members partner with colleagues and stakeholders across the Directorate and University–including the Directorate for Research, Innovation and Enterprise; research leaders; and IT Services–and participate in research committees and working groups, to help provide a supportive and connected environment for research at Oxford Brookes.
What will I be doing?
● Manage and develop Oxford Brookes’ institutional repository service, including the deposit, organisation, description, preservation, and discoverability of the University’s research outputs.
● Be responsible for the management, checking, and validation of outputs uploaded via the current research information system (CRIS) and received via other submission processes. Ensure they are made open access in compliance with University policies, funder mandates, and the requirements of the latest research assessment exercise, as appropriate.
● Provide expertise in the interpretation of copyright legislation, licensing terms, and data privacy laws in relation to scholarly outputs and open access.
● Provide effective line management, set objectives, and direct the work of the Library Assistant (Open Research).
● Work collaboratively with the Research & Infrastructure Lead, Digital Infrastructure Manager, Research Data Manager, and Open Research Librarians to agree shared objectives for the delivery of a fully integrated research support service.
● Monitor developments in institutional repositories, open research services, and research infrastructure, assessing their potential to enhance services for researchers.
