About this role

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust serves Southern Derbyshire, East Staffordshire and some parts of adjoining areas; Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire. We are looking to appoint an additional full-time Consultant Hepatologist. The successful applicant will join the existing vibrant and dynamic team of 6 Hepatologists and 14 Luminal Gastroenterologists at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. This post is suitable for StRs acquiring CCT or established consultants looking to subspecialise within a large department. Luminal and Hepatology services are provided on 2 separate dedicated wards at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) and on 1 ward at Queens Hospital Burton (QHB). At RDH the Hepatology service is supported by 8 Clinical Nurse Specialists including 2 Viral Hepatitis, 2 Hepatology, and 4 HPB cancer nurse Specialists, together with alcohol liaison service. Our endoscopy unit at the Royal Derby Hospital is a modern, 7 room facility, recently entirely re-equipped with the latest HD instruments. We perform over 20,000 procedures annually, including a range of specialist diagnostic and therapeutic procedures: colonoscopy; large polyp EMR; ERCP and EUS. There is a dedicated in-patient Endoscopy list 7 days per week, and we are well supported in radiology with 3 outstanding specialist GI radiologists and an on-call interventional radiology service. We are the lead Bowel Screening Unit in Southern Derbyshire with JAG accreditation. The medical assessment unit (MAU) is staffed by a team of acute physicians who conduct the post-take rounds. The medical take is supported by a consultant on-call for each medical specialty 24/7 including Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Medicine for the Elderly, Nephrology, Stroke and Gastroenterology/Hepatology. The post holder will primarily be on call for gastroenterology and GI bleeds only. There are also many opportunities for research, including participation in CLRN portfolio studies.
