About this role

Respiratory Clinical Fellow

London North West University Teaching Hospital seeks a Clinical Fellow / Specialty Registrar equivalent ST3-ST5 to join our dynamic and forward thinking respiratory team based at Northwick Park Hospital.

Location

Northwick Park Hospital Respiratory Department

Grade

Clinical Fellow / Specialty Registrar equivalent (ST3–ST5 equivalent)

Contract

Fixed-term, 12 months

This is a 12-month fixed-term appointment due to a temporary shortfall in Deanery-allocated Respiratory trainees. The post has been established to maintain service provision and middle-grade on-call cover and will be reviewed against future trainee allocations.

Are you an ambitious registrar looking to develop your respiratory career in a supportive, forward-thinking department? We are seeking a motivated Clinical Fellow to join our dynamic and expanding Respiratory Team.

This post offers high-quality clinical experience across inpatient care, specialist outpatient clinics, and diagnostic services. While this is a non-training post, it provides an exceptional platform to consolidate higher-level competencies, gain hands-on procedural experience, and prepare for future specialty training or higher academic aspirations.

Key Responsibilities

Inpatient Care

Provide middle-grade clinical support for our dedicated respiratory wards, overseeing patient management with close consultant supervision.

Referrals & In-Reach

Assess and manage inpatient respiratory referrals from other specialties and wards.

Procedures

Perform routine and advanced diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, including pleural aspirations, chest drain insertions, and supervised bronchoscopies (with opportunities to train in EBUS depending on experience).

Outpatient Clinics

Attend and help run supervised specialist clinics (e.g., rapid access lung cancer, pleural, COPD, or ILD services).

Governance & Audit

Participate actively in local departmental audits, governance meetings, quality improvement projects (QIP), and undergraduate/postgraduate teaching.

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) cares for the people of Brent, Ealing, Harrow and beyond.

Our team of more than 8,200 clinical and support staff serve a diverse population of almost one million people.

We run major acute services at

•

St Mark’s Hospital

an internationally renowned specialist centre for bowel disease

•

We are a university teaching NHS trust, in recognition of the important role we play in training clinicians of the future and bringing the benefits of research to the public.

The role will have a robust research element -

  • six commercial respiratory studies proposed for the coming year,
  • attendance in clinics (asthma, bronchiectasis) where patients can be identified for research
