AK Teaching is looking for caring and reliable Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist autism school in Middlesbrough, supporting children and young people aged 4-19.
You'll help pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) access learning, communicate, manage emotions and develop the confidence and independence they need both in school and beyond.
- Provide individual and small-group support.
- Help pupils engage with learning and practical activities.
- Support communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.
- Follow personalised learning plans and individual strategies.
- Encourage independence and essential life skills.
- Build consistent, trusting relationships with pupils.
- Work alongside teachers, therapists and specialist professionals.
Previous SEND or school experience would be useful, but we're also interested in people with transferable experience from care, youth work, support work or other roles involving children and young people.
You'll need to be patient, resilient, compassionate and genuinely interested in supporting autistic young people.
You'll gain valuable experience within a specialist setting, work alongside experienced education and therapy professionals and have access to long-term opportunities with potential for permanent work.
