About this role

Make a real difference, and have a permanent role to grow into

Do you love helping young people with autism find their confidence? A friendly, well-run Primary school in Boreham Wood wants someone who can build trust with its students and become a long-term part of the team. Start on a temp basis, settle in, and if it's a great fit (we hope it will be!), the school is keen to offer you a permanent contract.

Why you'll love it here

  • A school where behaviour is well managed and students genuinely value their education
  • A supportive SEN and inclusion team who work together and look out for each other
  • Regular CPD, including autism and SEN training, to help you grow
  • A clear route to a permanent role, plus future progression such as HLTA
  • Weekly pay and a dedicated consultant on your side from application to placement

What your days will look like

You'll support students with autism in lessons and around school, working 1:1 and in small groups alongside the SENCO and class teachers. You'll help students feel calm, understood and ready to learn.

  • Helping students access lessons using visual timetables, clear routines and social stories
  • Supporting students through anxiety, sensory needs and changes to routine
  • Encouraging friendships, social skills and emotional regulation
  • Delivering planned interventions and sharing progress with the team
  • Working towards EHCP targets and following school policies

What we're looking for

You don't need to be perfect, but you do need the right mindset and some hands-on experience.

  • Experience supporting children or young people with autism
  • Primary school experience
  • A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is preferred
  • Calm, patient and consistent, with the confidence to set kind but clear boundaries
  • A good understanding of sensory needs and autism-friendly approaches
  • A reliable team player with strong safeguarding awareness
