About this role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our Gynaecology Outpatients team, with a strong focus on supporting the colposcopy service. You will work alongside colposcopists, nurses and healthcare assistants to provide safe, compassionate, high-quality care to women and people with a cervix who are often anxious about abnormal screening results and examinations.
Colposcopy is a specialist, patient-centred service, so this is an excellent opportunity to develop skills in a rewarding area of women's health. Full training and support will be provided, and there is scope for future progression.
- Assist the colposcopist during examinations, treatments and biopsies, including preparing equipment, solutions and instruments.
- Welcome and prepare patients, explaining the procedure clearly and answering questions.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance, acting as chaperone and patient advocate throughout.
- Support informed consent by checking understanding and escalating any concerns.
- Handle, label and send histology and cytology specimens accurately, in line with local policy.
- Provide aftercare advice and written information, including what to expect after biopsy or treatment and when to seek help.
General gynaecology outpatient care
- Support a range of clinics, such as general gynaecology, postmenopausal bleeding, hysteroscopy and pessary clinics.
- Carry out observations, urinalysis, pregnancy tests and other point-of-care checks as required.
- Recognise and escalate deteriorating or unwell patients promptly.
