A specialist SEN school supporting children and young adults aged 8-23 is looking for caring, resilient and committed SEN Support Teaching Assistants to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis.

The school supports pupils with severe autism, profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), complex learning difficulties and significant communication needs. Many pupils are non-verbal and may use alternative communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, symbols or communication devices.

This is a highly rewarding role for someone passionate about supporting young people with complex needs to develop their communication, independence, confidence and quality of life.

About the Role

You will provide 1

1, small-group and classroom-based support, working closely with teachers, therapists and other specialist staff.

Support will be highly individualised and may include personal care, feeding, mobility support, sensory activities and communication interventions, alongside helping pupils access learning and develop essential life skills.

Some pupils may display behaviours that challenge or become dysregulated, so candidates must be calm, patient and able to follow individual behaviour and support plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with severe autism, PMLD and complex learning needs.
  • Provide personal care, including toileting and changing where required.
  • Support non-verbal pupils using appropriate communication strategies.
  • Assist with learning, sensory activities, communication and life-skills development.
  • Support pupils with physical, mobility and medical needs where appropriate.
  • Promote independence and encourage pupils to participate as fully as possible.
  • Follow EHCPs, behaviour plans, care plans and specialist recommendations.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, dignity and pupil welfare.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, resilient, patient and adaptable and comfortable working with pupils who have significant and complex needs.

Previous experience within SEND, PMLD, autism, care, support work or specialist education would be beneficial. Experience with personal care, moving and handling, PECS, Makaton, sensory needs or behaviours that challenge is also desirable, although relevant training can be provided.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive specialist environment and make a genuine difference to the learning, independence and development of children and young adults with complex SEND.

What we offer

  • Free access to CPD and safeguarding training
  • Dedicated consultant and ongoing support
