Job description
Section 47 Duty team
We are looking to recruit an experienced and qualified Social Worker to join our Section 47 Duty TEAM on an initial 3-month agency contract, with the potential for extension. We are seeking an experienced practitioner who can start as soon as possible, has strong safeguarding knowledge, and is able to hit the ground running following a brief induction.
Our Section 47 Duty Team is a fast-paced, short-term service responsible for completing Section 47 enquiries and, where appropriate, 15-day Section 17 assessments. The team does not hold long-term cases. Once enquiries and assessments have been completed, cases are transferred to the relevant longer-term teams for ongoing intervention. Social workers also participate in a duty rota every four weeks, during which new safeguarding referrals are allocated.
Although the work is fast-paced, caseloads are intentionally kept very low, with most social workers holding between three and four children at any one time. This enables practitioners to focus on completing timely, high-quality assessments and safeguarding enquiries.
We are looking for qualified and registered Social Workers who have experience working in safeguarding or assessment services, are confident in completing Section 47 enquiries, and can work independently while managing competing priorities. Applicants should have strong references and ideally have access to a car, as the role involves completing statutory home visits across Birmingham.
The team is based in Aston, Birmingham, with free on-site parking available. We offer hybrid and flexible working, with an expectation that staff attend the office two days per week.
You will receive a structured induction and join a supportive and experienced management team. The Trust also provides access to a wide range of free training opportunities to support your continuing professional development and Social Work England registration.
If you are an experienced social worker looking for a rewarding, fast-paced safeguarding role with manageable caseloads and a supportive team environment, we would be pleased to hear from you.
