About this role

What skills and experience we're looking for

Thank you for expressing an interest in the post of Teacher of Science at Copthall School.

As a girls’ school, we work hard to promote the value of STEM subjects and consequently Science is a very popular subject across our school community. We are keen to recruit a teacher to join our Science Department who can support our students at GCSE and A Level.

Information about the position

At Key Stage 4 we offer both separate and combined pathways for GCSE students and at Key Stage 5 we deliver A-level Biology and Chemistry as well as currently offering Applied Science BTEC.

The department’s results are consistently strong and continue to improve year on year with 100% of students receiving grade 5 and above in separate sciences, 63% achieving grade 4 and above in combined science and 70% achieving grade 4 and above in Science overall. In 2026, over 75% of separate students achieved grades 9-7 across the three sciences, a figure well above national average

A large number of our A level and BTEC students progress into Science based pathways at University such as Midwifery, Medicine, Neuroscience, Physics and Astronomy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Biomedical Science.

We are looking to recruit a full time / part time Teacher of Science, ideally with A level and preferably some BTEC applied science experience, who will join a highly skilled, energetic and passionate team, teaching across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

The successful candidate will be confident to deliver Biology, Chemistry and Physics content in Key Stages 3 and 4 and will ideally have the subject knowledge to deliver their specialism at Key Stage 5. They will be a student-centred teacher who is dedicated and will build positive relationships with our amazing young people so that they can inspire a love of learning and a passion for Science both in and outside of the classroom.
