About Us

South Staffordshire Water operates across two regions as Cambridge Water and South Staffs Water is a privately-owned regulated water only company.

South Staffs Water supplies a population of nearly 1.3 million. The area of supply stretches from the edge of Ashbourne in the North, to Halesowen in the South, and from Burton-on-Trent in the East, to Kinver in the West.

The Role

At South Staffs Water, the safety and wellbeing of our people is our highest priority. We're looking for a proactive and influential Health & Safety Business Partner to support our operational teams, drive continuous improvement, and help embed a strong safety culture across the business.

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, you'll work closely with operational managers, supervisors and subject matter experts to ensure our health and safety standards are translated into practical, effective ways of working that keep our people safe and support operational excellence.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about making health and safety relevant, engaging and practical. This is an excellent opportunity for a health and safety professional who enjoys building relationships, influencing positive behaviours and working directly with frontline teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partnering with operational teams to translate Group Health & Safety standards into practical procedures, guidance, templates and safe systems of work.
  • Supporting managers and supervisors to embed critical risks and controls within risk assessments and day-to-day operations.
  • Developing and reviewing risk assessments that accurately reflect work as performed and provide clear guidance for safe working practices.
  • Promoting high-quality incident and near-miss reporting that drives meaningful learning and continuous improvement.
  • Identifying workplace health risks and supporting the implementation of appropriate health surveillance programmes.
  • Supporting internal audits, inspections and assurance activities, including the management of contractor and supplier safety performance.
  • Managing and promoting the use of the EcoOnline incident reporting platform to support reporting, investigation and trend analysis.
  • Providing practical health and safety advice and support to managers and employees across the business.
  • Supporting the delivery of key health and safety objectives, KPIs and improvement initiatives.

What Success Looks Like

  • Health & Safety procedures are practical, accessible and effectively embedded within operational teams.
  • Risk assessments accurately reflect operational activities and critical controls are consistently applied.
  • Incident, near-miss and hazard reporting levels increase, driving proactive risk management.
  • Managers are confident in their health and safety responsibilities and supported in maintaining safe working environments.
  • Audit and inspection findings are addressed promptly, contributing to continuous improvement and compliance.

About You

Essential

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • Experience working within a health and safety advisory, coordinator or business partnering role.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment processes, accident investigation and health and safety management systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence, coach and support managers at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable

  • Membership of IOSH or a similar professional body.
  • Experience working within operational, utilities, engineering, construction or infrastructure environments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Experience using incident management and reporting systems such as EcoOnline.
  • Experience supporting cultural and behavioural safety improvement initiatives.
