As a School Caretaker, you will help ensure the school premises are safe, secure and ready for pupils and staff each day.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Opening and securing the school premises, including buildings and access points.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs around the site.
  • Ensuring classrooms, corridors, communal areas and outdoor spaces are clean, tidy and well maintained.
  • Completing regular site checks and reporting any maintenance or health and safety concerns.
  • Supporting the safe movement and storage of furniture, equipment and deliveries.
  • Assisting with the preparation of rooms and facilities for school activities and events.
  • Monitoring site security and ensuring visitors follow the appropriate procedures.
  • Supporting contractors and maintenance personnel attending the premises.
  • Following health and safety procedures and helping maintain a safe environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
  • Reporting faults, damage or any issues requiring specialist attention.

We are looking for a dependable and hands-on individual who can work independently, manage their workload and respond effectively to the day-to-day needs of a busy school environment.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Previous experience in caretaking, facilities management, maintenance or a similar practical role.
  • Good practical skills and the ability to carry out basic repairs.
  • An understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving maintenance issues.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with staff, contractors and visitors.
  • A flexible and helpful attitude, with the ability to prioritise tasks.

Previous experience working within a school or educational setting would be beneficial but is not essential.

  • Opportunity to work within a school environment.
  • A varied role with a mixture of practical and site-related responsibilities.
  • The chance to contribute to a safe and welcoming learning environment.
  • Support from a dedicated Cover People consultant.

If you have practical maintenance skills and are looking for a school-based caretaking opportunity in Stockport, we would be keen to hear from you.
