About this role
Finance Officer
Take the next step in your finance career
You already have practical experience in an accounts team and understand that good finance work is more than processing invoices. You can reconcile accounts, investigate discrepancies, keep accurate records and explain what is happening when something does not balance.
As a Finance Officer at Get Set UK, you will join a collaborative finance team responsible for day-to-day transactional accounting. The role is largely focused on
purchase ledger and credit control , with broader exposure to reconciliations, month-end activity, audit support and financial reporting.
This is a
home-based role , but it is not an entry-level finance or general administration position.
Before you apply
the essentials
To be considered, your
CV must clearly demonstrate
-
Hands-on experience working in an
accounts or finance team , with practical responsibility for transactional finance activities such as purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control, payments or expenses.
-
Practical experience completing
financial reconciliations , including investigating and resolving discrepancies.
-
AAT qualified, or an equivalent recognised accounting qualification.
-
Experience working with accounting processes including
accruals and prepayments .
-
Demonstrable
intermediate Excel skills used within a finance or accounts environment.
-
Confident working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to learn and adapt to other software and digital systems.
If your experience is mainly general administration, or your finance knowledge is primarily academic rather than practical, this is unlikely to be the right role for you.
What you will be doing
You will work across Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, helping maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
Day to day, that means monitoring the accounts mailbox, registering and processing purchase invoices, obtaining authorisations, processing expenses and preparing payment runs.
You will reconcile supplier statements, bank accounts, petty cash, company cards and purchasing systems, investigating differences and resolving queries rather than simply carrying them forward.
You will also raise sales invoices, issue remittances and carry out credit control, following up outstanding balances professionally and persistently.
As your knowledge of the organisation grows, you will contribute to monthly closure tasks, including accruals and prepayments, and prepare accurate financial information used in management reporting and reports to external funders.
You will also support year-end and audit activity and act as a useful point of contact for managers, colleagues and suppliers when finance queries arise.
What success looks like
Your work is accurate, complete and delivered to deadline. Reconciliations balance because you investigate problems properly. Supplier and internal queries are dealt with promptly, and outstanding debts are actively managed.
You understand the accounting purpose behind the transactions you process and can spot when something does not look right.
You will also be developing broader accounting experience and becoming a dependable member of the team during month-end, reporting and audit activity.
Useful, but not essential
-
Experience using
Xero in an accounts role.
-
Experience supporting month-end or year-end processes.
-
Experience preparing financial information for management or externally funded reporting.
