A welcoming school in Southall is looking for a SEND Development Practitioner to join its team from January, supporting pupils with additional needs while developing valuable specialist experience of your own.

Learn by Making a Difference

You'll work directly with children who may need additional support with learning, communication, emotional regulation, behaviour or social interaction.

Needs may include

Autism (ASC) • ADHD • SEMH • Speech & Language Needs • Sensory Differences • Learning Difficulties

Rather than simply helping pupils complete their work, you'll learn to recognise the barriers preventing them from participating in the first place.

That could mean adapting how an activity is presented.

Helping a pupil regulate before returning to learning.

Finding a different way to communicate an instruction.

Or gradually helping a child become confident enough to do something independently.

Day to day, you'll have opportunities to develop your skills through

• Providing individual and small-group SEND support.
• Helping pupils access lessons and personalised activities.
• Supporting individual targets and EHCP outcomes.
• Delivering structured interventions.
• Developing strategies around communication and interaction.
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
• Helping pupils manage transitions and changes in routine.
• Encouraging independence rather than creating dependency.
• Observing progress and identifying what approaches are working.
• Sharing feedback with teachers and SEND professionals.
• Working alongside the SENCO and wider school team.
• Developing a broader understanding of inclusive education.

Where Could SEND Take Your Career?

Who Are We Looking For?

You might currently work as a

Teaching Assistant • SEN TA • Learning Support Assistant • Behaviour Mentor • 1:1 Support Assistant • Pastoral Assistant

Previous experience supporting children or young people is important, but so is your attitude towards development.

• Can remain calm when situations become challenging.
• Is willing to learn new strategies and approaches.

• Takes feedback positively and wants to keep developing.
• Is considering a longer-term career within education or SEND.

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, will be required.
