Consultant in Sedation and Special Care

The postholder will provide consultant-led, specialist oral health care for patients requiring Special Care Dentistry within Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. The role will involve the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred dental care for individuals with complex needs, including treatment provided under local anaesthesia, conscious sedation and, where clinically appropriate, general anaesthesia. The postholder will work collaboratively with consultant colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective and equitable access to specialist dental services. They will have a significant leadership, supervisory, teaching, research, quality improvement and service development role within the department and the wider Trust. The postholder will maintain continuing clinical responsibility for patients under their care, while ensuring appropriate delegation, supervision and development of junior dental staff and other members of the clinical team.
